song of the hour: poe

song of the hour: poe – hey pretty

man, where have I been that I missed this very cool artist? hmm.. well, poe’s last big hit “angry johnny” came out at a time when I was still into heavy grunge, so those heavily seductive lyrics and atmospheric arrangements went right over my 14-year-old head. it seems a lot of the modern rock artists who had radio hits while I was in high school are coming out with new stuff, and it fuels a desire to go back to their older stuff and dig a little deeper. take, for instance, folk implosion. their song “natural one” has always been one of my faves, but only now do I realize that the lead singer is also in sebadoh, a reputedly kick-ass indie group I honestly haven’t heard much of -sheepish-, that natural one was kind of a surprise hit off the “Kids” soundtrack, etc. It’s just funny: I didn’t think too much about the things I liked. I just liked them. it’s a simple thing, you know? it’s not about taste or whatnot… I liked that song, and who knew it was a “cool” song to like? I didn’t know, nor did I care.

I find I question myself about a lot of things a lot more, even something as simple as “what do you like?” I’ve always been indecisive, but please. Maybe things need to be a little more black and white with me.

-thoughtfully- but I definitely have a better idea of what I want, what I want to do with my time. my ideas stand more solidly now, with much more “real-life” experience to back ’em up. yet, at the same time, you now know enough to be a little afraid…

man, this jeff buckley stuff

man, this jeff buckley stuff is pretty addictive.

I picked up the CD last weekend at media play while waiting to watch final fantasy. (which reminds me of a story I’ll talk about here.) chris introduced me to the guy with the song “corpus christi carol” a few months ago.. and from there I slowly started getting more of his songs, finding out more about him, etc. I’d been listening to “last goodbye” non-stop for weeks leading up to my purchase, and even now, it still blows me away. something about the intensity of his feelings and the playful lyrical and vocal flourishes on that track in particular. it just grabs that vulnerable part of you and sends it soaring.

in a word.. wow.

so I’ve been spinning the CD a lot lately…I guess you could say it puts me back in touch with my feelings. but actually.. I have a feeling that might have something to do with something else. =P

song of the hour: jeff

song of the hour: jeff buckley – last goodbye

such a great song.. and no, this doesn’t actually pertain to anything in my life right now, in case you’re wondering! this guy has such an amazing voice…

jeff buckley – last goodbye

This is our last goodbye
I hate to feel the love between us die
But it’s over
Just hear this and then I’ll go :
you gave me more to live for,
more than you’ll ever know.

This is our last embrace,
must I dream and always see your face
Why can’t we overcome this wall
Baby, maybe it is just because I didn’t know you at all.

Kiss me, please,
Kiss me
But kiss me out of desire, babe, and not consolation
Oh You know,
it makes me so angry ’cause I know that in time
I’ll only make you cry, this is our last goodbye.

Did you say “no, this can’t happen to me,”
and did you rush to the phone to call?
Was there a voice unkind in the back of your mind saying,
“maybe… you didn’t know him at all.”

Well, the bells out in the church tower chime
Burning clues into this heart of mine
Thinking so hard on her soft eyes and the memory
Of her sighs that, “it’s over… it’s over…”
