radiohead – ammesiac
radiohead – hail to the thief
even though i probably seem like the kind of person who might be a very big fan of radiohead, the truth is i’ve been very indifferent to radiohead for quite a while. (hangs head in shame) it wasn’t for lack of exposure — i’m good friends at least 4 huge radiohead fans (hell, i’m even marrying one of them). and it’s not because i never owned the cds — at various points, i’ve actually purchased ok computer, amnesiac, and kid a, but i never listened to them since they were borrowed away from me by various people who never returned them (that should have been a sign, huh?). and since i was too cheap to go out and buy the cds again and was too lazy/indignant that i’d be forced to download music i already bought, well… needless to say that didn’t help either.
my main beef with radiohead probably was that they struck me as being extremely cold. i’ve found i like my music perhaps aloof, but not alienating, and maybe a little dark, though not machine-like. which may be completely incorrect assumptions about radiohead, but were nevertheless reasons for me to not ever really get into them, despite the fact that i have always thought they are geniuses.
all this (except for the geniuses part) has changed. radiohead has an album coming out on june 9 called “hail to the thief.” i heard some advance songs off of it, and so far, i’m really really enjoying it. it doesn’t strike me as being so cold (maybe i was wrong all those years!), and i’m able to appreciate its brilliance a little more than i used to be.
hail to the thief. w00t.
